FAQ's:
Why should I choose dance for my child?
Dancing is a fabulous individual as well as team activity. Children learn discipline, focus and team skills in addition to dance technique. In the dance field, children can go on to be dance teachers, professional performers, fitness instructors or directors to name a few. But the majority of our graduated dancers have gone on to careers in other fields - business, law and even medicine - and they tell us there BEST memories and lessons learned in life came from DANCE. They learned commitment, self motivation and or course had a wonderful time.
Why should I choose Encore for my child?
We have been teaching dance for over twenty years and we LOVE what we do. Dancers are our focus and we are committed to providing a fun yet structured environment for learning. See our "About Us" page for a bulleted list of features at Encore!
When does it start + how long does it run for?
Classes begin on Friday, September 9th, 2011. If, for example, your class is on Tuesdays, your first class is Tuesday, September 1th, and so on. Classes run once per week frm September 2011 - June 2012.
Why do I need to come in to register?
We require several forms to be completed and signed for your child's registration + we require the opportunity to discuss payment options and policies with you. If our office hours are not convenient for you, please let us know and we can arrange a time.
What are the costs involved?
When you register your child there is of course the cost factor to consider. Class fees are paid monthly through EFT's (withdrawn automatically from your bank account each month). Fee schedule is availabe at the studio.
There is a registration fee ($25 for new dancers and early registration and $30 for returning dancers after June 30th). Your dancer will require a costume for each dance and there are performing fees (fees charged to the studio by the competition(s). These are payable in the Fall as the studio prepays these fees on your behalf. Information on amounts payable is available at the studio.
Your child will also require the proper dance attire for class. This varies for each dance form. He/she will also require the proper footwear. Approximate footwear and costs involved is available a the studio.
What are the payment options?
The registration fee is due upon registration and can be paid by Cash, Cheque, Credit Card or Debit.
Monthly class fees are paid by electronic fiunds transfer (from your bank account each month). If you would like to use a credit card for class fees, please discuss options with us.
Costume and competition entry fees are due by November 15th and are withdrawn from your bank acount on set dates. Please discuss with us at registration.
Do I pay less in months when there are fewer classes? (e.g. in December?)
We take the total number of classes in the entire year (usually 33 or 34) and divide it by 10 to simplify things and to make each monthly the payment the same. So no, you do not pay for classes your child does not receive, but each month the payment is the same. You paying "ten equal installments" for the whole year's fees.
What does my child wear to class?
Proper attire is required for each class. This information is detailed in your Parent Handbook that you will receive when you come in to register. We recommend The Dance Box on North Road, Coquitlam, for purchase of all dance shoes and apparel but there are many other options. See our "What to Wear to Class" Sheet for new parents - click here to link.
What if my child misses a class?
If your child is ill or you are heading on vacation, please give us a call at the office. We do not offer reimbursement or make up classes for these reasons. If a class is cancelled at the discretion of the Directors a make up class time will be offered.
What else do I need to consider?
It is important to consider dance a commitment for the whole year. As the children learn and perform a routine together, if one child is missing it can negatively affect the group. Performances can be during the day on weekdays, this will require arrangements to be made to ensure your child is present at all events. Attendance at competitions and performances is mandatory as discussed at registration.
What if I do not want my child to "compete"?
We are a competitive studio, meaning all dancers are entered into competitions. Competitions and Festivals are a great way for dancers of all ages and abilities to excel and showcase their progress. We only enter dancers into events that categorize dancers by age and ability - meaning a Novice 12 year old dancer will only be competiting against other Novice 12 year olds, not dancers who have been dancing since they were 6.
When dancers are little please remember this is not so much a "competitive" experience, more a chance for them to dance on stage and perform! Competitions are a fun and positive experience for all dancers.
Are there photos?
Yes! We do group photos in the Spring of each group and they will also do an individual pose in each costume. These are great keepsakes. Purchase is optional.
Who dances in the Recital?
All dancers will perform at least once in our year end show in June. It is a fun and exciting way to wrap up a year of hard work!
Dancers are not required to pay to perform, the theatre costs are covered by the studio. Anyone wishing to watch the show from the audience is required to purchase a ticket (including dancers). Tickets will be available for sale in June.
