General Info
Competition season is a fun and exciting time at the studio!!! Performing on stage is a way for our dancers to excel and have a great sense of personal accomplishment. They have worked all year and now it's time to show it off! Dancers will dance at at least 2 competitions and at our year end recital.
Dates + Locations
The dates shown above are for the entire event. Each dance will perform one time at each event. Please mark your calendars.
Closer to the event we receive from the competitions specific dates and times, usually 2 weeks - 1 month prior to the event.
These will be posted at the studio as soon as we receive them and online as soon as possible.
Just a reminder it is mandatory for dancers to attend these competitions. They are not held at the same time as your regular class and may be during the day and/or on weekdays. Please make sure you make arrangements for your dancer to be there.
There are maps to the theatres shown on the above links. The competitions are not held at the studio.
Please remember to make time for rush hour or traffic.
Arrival Times + Procedures
Please arrive 1 HOUR prior to your listed stage time with your costume on (and covered) and stage makeup done. The changerooms can get VERY congested and busy on competition day as there are dancers from many studios attending. Please pay attention to any parking notices. Each theatre is different and if you park in unauthorized areas you could get towed. Any information we receive we will post if possible.
Proceed to the competition or theatre lobby and dancers may be required to sign in at a sign in table (usually just at Peak Invitational). Then follow signs to the dressing rooms. Find the rest of your group and wait until a studio representative (might be your teacher) comes to find you. Please stay together!! Your teacher may not always be able to attend all competitions. Please understand that our teachers have many groups and also may teach at other studios. Howerver, there will always be a representative from Encore there to cheer you on and accompany dancers backstage.
Parents can then procreed to the theatre to watch. Most competitions charge a small fee to watch (between $3 - $5). Parents are not allowed backstage. Please talk to your dancer and arrange a spot to meet them once they are finished their dance (in the dressingroom or lobby). Please meet your dancer immediately after they dance. Programs are usually available for sale as well and have the schedule for the entire event (not just that day).
Costumes + Dressing Rooms
Please arrive with your costume on and covered with a baggy t-shirt or button front shirt and your stage hair and makeup done. You should have received a notice describing how hair and makeup should be done. Please contact the studio if you have not received one closer to the competition date. Dressing rooms can get VERY congested and busy on competition day. Do not eat or drink anything except water in your costume please as they are very difficult to clean and cannot be replaced. PLEASE REMOVE ALL NAILPOLISH, TATTOOS, BODY JEWELLRY, EARRINGS AND UNDERWEAR.
Dads are not allowed in the dressing rooms as it is primarly girls changing. If you are a dad bringing your dancer please let her teacher know and she will be safe with a studio representative backstage. There is absolutely NO PHOTOS or VIDEOS allowed to be taken in the dressing rooms (for obvious reasons).
Dressing rooms for boys are sometimes available at bigger dance competitions. If there is, there will be signs posted or you can ask at th event front table. If not, boys please change in the washrooms and leave your bag with your mom or dad.
**IMPORTANT: DANCERS - DO NOT BRING ANYTHING VALUABLE WITH YOU TO COMPETITIONS. LEAVE ALL JEWELLRY, PURSES, VALUABLES AND CELL PHONES AT HOME. ANYTHING YOU MUST BRING PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE WITH A PARENT. ZIP UP YOUR DANCE BAG WHEN YOU LEAVE IT IN THE CHANGEROOM AND PLEASE KEEP OUR STUDIO AREA TIDY!!
Awards
Awards sessions will be held throughout the day of the event. Please stay for your groups' awards session and wear your costume or encore team wear when you go on stage to receive your award. Your teacher will assign a dancer to accept the award on the group's behalf. Please remember - you are representing the studio!! Bring nothing on stage - no bags, purses, cameras or cell phones (but they were left at home anyway :) Remind dancers to smile and say thank you and to show the great sportsmanship we have at Encore :)
We are so proud of all our dancers at Encore!! Best of luck to each and every one of you - and MOST IMPORANTLY, SMILE + HAVE FUN!!!
Please call us at the office if you have any questions at all. 604-468-7400 or email!! :)
